Thornton College is an Independent Day and Boarding School for girls aged 5-16. The School was founded in 1917 and pupils enjoy its enviable location set in 25 acres of Buckinghamshire parkland.
Thornton is a happy and thriving school which provides an education which equips its pupils academically, socially and emotionally for the future. Girls acquire not only an excellent education but self esteem, sound moral values and respect for the needs of others.
Thornton's supportive environment encourages good relationships and close co-operation among staff, pupils and parents. It is a warm and friendly school which pays great attention to its pupils as individuals. Thornton does not select its pupils on academic ability alone, but has high expectations for every one. Each child is encouraged to give of her best in everything she undertakes. Thornton College is the most successful non-selective school in the area.
It is very important to us that our pupils are happy. We hold that children learn and achieve the most when they are content and feel valued. We firmly believe that each and every child has a unique talent. We see it as our job to discover what this talent is, and to foster and develop it.
The curriculum is broad, stimulating and challenging. It is supported by excellent facilities and resources and backed by effective systems of pastoral care and careers advice.
Boarding at Thornton offers many advantages. Termly, weekly and occasional boarding is offered to suit the modern family's commitments and needs. Boarders benefit from constant companionship from peers and a firmly structured environment in which they feel secure and confident. The boarding house has a relaxed family atmosphere. Each boarding area has its own matron who looks after the welfare of each child, taking a personal interest in each one.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in as many extra-curricular activities as they can. Not only do these activities provide enjoyment and relaxation, but they increase the girls' poise and self-confidence and offer valuable opportunities for the development of inter-personal skills and leadership qualities.
